The Computer Science and Systems Engineering Laboratory (U2IS) conducts research in the field of design and reliability of systems integrating autonomous decision-making processes with applications in intelligent transportation, robotics, defense, and energy. The laboratory brings together ENSTA's research activities in computer science, robotics, vision, embedded systems, signal and image processing, hybrid system design and analysis, secure communication, and complex system architecture.
The laboratory focuses on application-oriented research. Although it may originate in fundamental fields, the motivation for most of its work is to be able to integrate into products (components, robotic systems, design or validation tools) that are ultimately evaluated by industry and may lead to technology transfers.
ENSTA is a founding school of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris). Within this framework, the laboratory is attached to the Department of Computer Science, Data and Artificial Intelligence (IDIA) and is a key contributor to the interdisciplinary center Hi! PARIS (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) and CIEDS (Defense and Security).
The laboratory is actively developing links with the AMIAD Research Center (Artificial Intelligence for Defense) in order to conduct joint research on the operationalization of AI for autonomous and embedded systems.
Institutionally, within ENSTA, U2IS, together with the Lab-STICC laboratory, forms the “Information Sciences and Computer Science” Training and Research Unit (UFR S2I). This academic structure, which operates on the Paris-Saclay (U2IS) and Brest (Lab-STICC) campuses, ensures thematic consistency and essential national networking in the fields of digital engineering, embedded systems, and robotics.
